Next Sunday, Isak Brusberg could play in his first Gothenburg derby in Allsvenskan. The 18-year-old has recently earned more and more trust from the coaching staff and is eager for the clash with Gais.
- “It’s a celebration for the fans. Everyone in the whole city will be watching that match,” says Isak Brusberg.
He made his Allsvenskan debut in 2023 at just 16 years old, with two substitute appearances. This season, he has already recorded three starts and three substitute appearances in the league – and lately, he’s become a regular in the starting eleven.
“I think you can start to see my development now. The coach believes in me. He sees me, knows what I want, and what I can do. I’ve improved many small details and become mentally stronger. I can feel the progress,” says Brusberg.
The Swedish Cup winner is focused on continuing to grow.
“The next step is to keep playing and earn a permanent spot in the starting lineup,” says the Hisingen-born talent, who came up through Backatorp IF.
He’s been on the bench for a Gothenburg derby in Allsvenskan before, but never played in one. Next Sunday, he’s hoping that changes.
“It would be amazing and cool to play in a Gothenburg derby. Those are the games you dream about. It’s a celebration for the fans. Everyone in the city will be watching. I think it’ll be a fun game to play in. It’s a derby – I always look forward to those,” he says.
He believes the key to victory at Bravida Arena will be simple:
“It comes down to who fights harder, who battles more, and which team stays more united. It’s mostly about team spirit in a derby,” says Brusberg.
He’s optimistic about BK Häcken’s chances in the second half of the season.
“We’ve been playing our game, and everyone is fighting for each other. In those moments when we give everything, it’s looked good. Of course, we want to finish as high as possible, challenge for Europe, and go as far as we can. We’ll push ourselves to the max and hope for the best,” he says.
What does he want to contribute in the derby?
“I want to help us win. If we win, I’m happy. Of course, it would feel great to score or get an assist too, but my main focus is on the team winning. It would feel really good to beat Gais. We’re hoping for that,” says Brusberg.
